NOT SO LONG AGO, - a filmmaker wouldn't dream of shooting a movie on a phone because the quality was so inferior to what you could capture on pricier devices.

But that's changing. Consider this : The  most recent project from the renowned American film director Steven Soderberg, ''Unsane'' was shot entirely on an iPhone.

Today, there are lots of reasons everyone from photographers to amateur shutterbugs are using phones to shoot video projects.

Like many of his peers, Christian Nachtrieh , a Boston-based corporate and wedding photographer finds phones aren't just continuing to improve in terms of quality, but they're also also extremely convenient.

''It's the readiness factor. Having a phone right in your pocket is a huge plus,'' says Mr. Nachtrieb, who might see a stunning sunset, capture it on his phone, and then splice it into a final wedding video.

''No one in a million years could tell the difference between our main cameras and the iPhone.''

FOR YEARS - Yes, for years, Ev Willams was saddled with doubts. At times, grave doubts.

As a co-founder of Blogger and Twitter and, more recently, as the chief executive of the digital publishing platform Medium.

Mr. Williams transformed the way millions by millions of people publish and consume information online.

But as the empire grew, he started to get a gnawing feeling that something wasn't right.

High-quality publishers were losing out to sketchy clickbait factories. Users were spending tons of time on social media, but they weren't necessarily happier or better informed.

Platforms built to empower the masses were rewarding extremists and attention seekers instead.

PrepareYour SMARTPHONE :

If you want to use your smartphone abroad, the easiest way to do is to pay your carrier an  international roaming fee.

Paying an international roaming fee will enable you to use your phone number, and you won't have to deal with hassle of installing a foreign SIM card. The problem is that it is expensive.

Using a foreign SIM card is cheaper, and its not difficult if you prepare doing the following:

.- Unlock Your Phone : Your phone must be unlocked to work with foreign SIM cards. Many newer smartphones come unlocked by default, but you should call your carrier to confirm that your device will work with other wireless carriers.

.- Order A Foreign SIM Card In Advance : Often, when you arrive at your destination, you can buy a SIM card at the airport or a local cellphone store.

But I have found it to be less stressful and more affordable to order a SIM card online and have it to my home before I travel.

For example, before traveling to Taiwan last month, I ordered a $12 SIM card with unlimited data for 12 days, I set it up to activate on the day I arrived in Taiwan.

.- DownLoad Important Apps and  Maps Ahead Of Time

You never know whether a foreign country's cell service will sluggish or spotty. so it's best to download crucial media ahead on time on your home Wi-Fi network.

Research and download the ride-sharing apps that are legal at your destination.

And use Google Maps to download offline maps for the cities you are travelling to.

That will spare your battery, and you will burn through less data when you are constantly looking up directions.

Also, of you are not fluent with the language at your destination, an extremely helpful app is Google Translate, which can use your phone camera to translate languages on the fly.

Make sure to download the language pack in advance.

.- Have A Backup plan For Logging In to Important Apps [If Applicable] : Many people use a method of two-factor authentication that requires entering a special code that is texted to their phone when logging in to an app or service.

Because you won't have access to your phone number, you may have to find alternative ways to log in.

So for gaining access to my Google Account overseas, I print out a list of backup codes that I can punch in for logging in; I tape the list to my passport holder.

You can also use an authentic app, which generates a security code for logging in without having to send a txt to your phone. This type of app also doesn't require a  network connection.

,- Consider Some Extras

After going through the crucial tasks to take your phone abroad, there are more tech options to make your vacation more pleasant.

For entertainment, I load up my tablet with books, comics and games before departing.
