Chile: Students Protest Law For Universities

Chilean students once again took to streets of Santiago, protesting government’s proposed ‘Law on State Universities’.

According to the government, the law will improve the financing of public education as well as the institutional system of the universities and rules of employment. However students worry on how it will be workable and that it might become harmful for public education.

The protest was organised by the Confederation of Chilean Students, Confech, on 5th of September.

“We want a law that truly strengthens the state universities, and for that we have to listen, so that it is legislated based on the criteria that define those who build public higher education day by day in Chile,” said Confech in a statement.
