Students protest use of deadly force on them

Kashmir: High School Students in Mattan, Sirinagar, protested against the use of force by security forces which led to life threatening injuries to one of their schoolmate.

Sameer Ahmed, a high-school student of Government School in Mattan is battling for life at SKIMS Hospital after suffering a firearm injury during a protest on May 27, hours after the killing of the separatist group Hizb-ul-Mujahedeen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat in Tral.

The protesting students allege that paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had opened direct fire without any provocation, resulting into life-threatening injuries to Sameer.

“His skull was fractured badly from the backside and pieces of the skull bone had penetrated into his brain due to high velocity impact. He has serious life-threatening brain hemorrhages and is still on ventilator,” said a doctor who was part of the team that operated upon Sameer.

“After firing several rounds, the CRPF troopers thrashed several students inside the school,” said a protesting student.

The protesters demanded the shifting of the CRPF camp, located adjacent to the school and the filing of murder case against the erring troopers. (PTK)
