*WITH ALMIGHTY GOD'S BLESSINGS* :  In the years ahead,  If we stay the course, respect every law, and contribute world class  *knowledge-content*-...............

And go through-  *The mighty exercise of  Global Elections*-   An exercise, no matter how imperfect, we would have just about turned some corners in all our travails.

And on the  *subject and exercise of elections*.  nothing can do, or will do America,  -more proud, than to have its students organize the elections.

GENEVA : In a landmark ruling, a Swiss court has fined a man for ''liking'' comments on Facebook accusing an  animal right activist of being  a ''racist'' and an ''anti-Semite''

In the first case of its kind in Switzerland, the district court this Monday faulted a 45-year old man for hitting the  ''Like'' button under what the judge deemed defamatory comments on the social media site.

According to a court statement sent to AFP on Tuesday, the defendant had accused  Erwin Kesseler and the animal protection group he heads, Verein gegen Tierfabriken [Against Animal Factories], of racism and anti-Semitism in Facebook posts.

But the court also took issue with the man's decision to hit the ''Like'' button under several comments from third parties about Kessler that were deemed inflammatory, and commented and linked to some of them.

The comments were made in 2015 during heated discussions on a range of Facebook groups about which animal welfare groups should be permitted to take part in a large vegan street festival, Swiss daily Tages Anzeiger reported.

All Merchants of Hate may in some respects have been muzzled, but they continue to thrive in the echo chamber that is the  social media.

An in-depth investigation by one  Distinguished Newspaper uncovered the the extent to which banned organizations : global terrorist networks, and their supporters, maintain interconnected and  public networks on Facebook.

The move to better police violent content comes as Facebook grapples with its evolution from a social network for friends and family to a global platform for sharing news and even uncensored self-broadcasting in real time.

Facebook last month stepped up its security to counter efforts by governments and others to spread misinformation or manipulate discussions for political reasons.

The effort expanded  Facebook's security efforts  beyond  ''abusive'' actions such as hacking and financial scams to  ''more subtle and  insidious forms of misuse-

Including attempts to manipulate  civic discourse  and deceive people.'' according to a  white paper released  by the world's leading social network.

The initiative is part of  Facebook's  effort to counter  ''fake news'' but goes beyond that to tackle efforts by governments and  non-state entities to use the social network to manipulate public opinion.

Facebook also recently unleashed a new weapon in the war against ''revenge porn''  at the leading social network as well as the messaging services  Messenger and Instagram.

When intimate images are shared on Facebook without permission are reported, confirmed and removed, the company will use the  photo-matching technology to prevent copies from being shared on its platform anew.

''When this content, often referred to as  ''revenge porn'', is reported to us, we can now prevent it from being shared on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram,'' said the head of the global safety Antigone Davis said in a blog post.

''This is part of our ongoing effort to help build a better and safe community on and off Facebook.''

Be that it may, the stark truth for the world to consider is that its pursuit of red herrings and its muddled priorities leave it unable to construct a focused and consistent  counter narrative that is so desperately needed to consolidate the gains made in kinetic operations.

Granted, Facebook itself has admitted to the difficulty in removing offensive material from its network, but every government should be more proactive with the company on this score.

ON The World Students Society : Students Saima, and Sannyia/Karachi. will watch and report every single development on Facebook to, Zilli. Who in turn will keep me briefed.
