Renewed Protests In Chile

Students in Chilean capital Santiago came on the streets on Thursday, protesting higher education plans which they say won't do enough for the betterment of students. Police also fired tear-gas as a clash erupted.

During the 2013 elections president Michelle Bachelet had promised a system of universal and free access to higher education within a time frame of six years but now the government is falling short achieving the target. Students have shown perseverance to their demands holding constant demonstrations and occupied schools in recent months.

The Chilean Students Protest movement known as the Chilean Winter, had started in 2011. Massive protests demanded a new framework for education, including more direct state participation in secondary education and an end to the existence of profit in higher education.
