5-year-old sent invoice for missing friend's birthday party

Parents of a 5-year-old boy were billed for their son not attending a Birthday Party he was invited and have been threatened of legal action over non-payment.

Alex Nash, from Cornwall, was invited to a birthday of his friend which they had accepted but his parents realised on the day that Alex had been double-booked to spend time with his grandparents.

Julie Lawrence, mother of Alex's friend, claims that Alex's parents had her details to tell of him not coming and that his absence left her out of pocket.

Alex's father said he has been threatened to be taken to small courts and that he had told Lawrence that he'll not pay her the money.

Alex's mother told Apex News, “Julie Lawrence and I weren’t friends, we didn’t talk to each other at school, but I felt bad about Alex not going to the party.”

“I searched for the party invite afterwards and I’m not sure we even had one.”

She added: “But to be invoiced like this is so over the top – I’ve never heard of anything like it. It’s a terrible way of handling it – it’s very condescending.”
