Rogers student dies after collapse at basketball practice

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A male student at Rogers High School passed away Tuesday afternoon, Newport Public Schools Superintendent Colleen Berns Jermain has confirmed.

The boy, whose name and age have not yet been released, collapsed during basketball practice at the school.

Medical attention was given to the student on scene.

Berns said all other information surrounding the incident is being withheld until the boy’s family is notified.
