Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund Are First to Advance in Champions League


Real Madrid beat Liverpool, 1-0, on Karim Benzema’s goal in the 27th minute, and Borussia Dortmund eased past Galatasaray, 4-1, on Tuesday night to become the first two teams to advance to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League. Madrid leads Group B and Dortmund leads Group D with both teams having two games left to play in the group stage.

Elsewhere, Arsenal wasted a three-goal lead at home in a 3-3 tie against Anderlecht in Group D; Basel routed Ludogorets, 4-0, in Group B; in Group A, Juventus got past Olympiakos, 3-2, and Atlético Madrid shut out Malmo, 2-0; and in Group C, Bayer Leverkusen won by 2-1 at Zenit St. Petersburg and Benfica blanked Monaco, 1-0.
