New student leaders proclaim 2015 ‘Year of Higher Education’

Amid the passage of an embattled education reform bill, a powerful student organization presented its new student board on Wednesday morning, pronouncing 2015 a year of action.

The Universidad de Chile Student Federation (FeCh) — a chief component of the country’s university student umbrella organization, the Chilean Student Confederation (Confech) — has been on the forefront of nationwide demands for sweeping education reform.

In a press conference held at FeCh headquarters, the new leaders discussed the federation’s future relationship with government, the education reform bill, student participation in politics and next year’s political agenda.
