Security forces break up student protests across Egypt


Egyptian security forces violently dispersed anti-government student protests inside the premises of six universities around the country.

Security forces clashed with student protesters inside Cairo, Al-Azhar and Ein Shams universities in the capital. Clashes also broke out after security forces stormed three other major universities in the Nile Delta provinces of Daqahliya, Gharbiya as well as Upper Egypt's Beni Soueif.

Eyewitnesses reported injuries and arrests of students during the clashes. Interior Ministry spokesman Hani Abdel-Latif told Anadolu Agency that three students were arrested Sunday from Cairo University's protests.

University students across Egypt have been staging demonstrations, primarily organized by the "Students Against the Coup" movement, since the beginning of the school year last week.
