Hundreds at risk in SDSU meningitis case


A San Diego State University student who is presumed to have contracted meningococcal meningitis may have come in contact with as many as 400 students at two fraternity parties and elsewhere over the past two weeks, campus officials said Thursday.

Reports Thursday night that the student had died could not be confirmed.

SDSU and San Diego County health officials have issued a widespread health alert and started offering free preventive antibiotics to anyone who may have come into contact with the 18-year-old undergraduate student.
