Four arrested at Auckland Uni student fees protest

Four students have been arrested at the University of Auckland after chaining themselves inside the Vice Chancellor's office over a predicted fee increase.

The students jostled with police and security guards ahead of the university's fee-setting meeting where they were expected to announce a 4 percent increase in fees.

The altercation happened when friends of those arrested attempted to surround the police van to stop it from driving away.

Police moved the arrested students to another van and took them away by a different exit.

"Because the university has chosen to chain us to a lifetime of debt we've decided to chain ourselves to the university's Vice Chancellor's office," says protester Tim Lamusse.
