Details Of Keira's Broadway Debut

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY is set to make her Broadway debut next year, taking the titular role in a stage adaptation of Emile Zola's Thérèse Raquin.

The book, which was adapted for the stage shortly after it was released in 1867, focuses heavily on the female protagonist and her struggles in an unhappy marriage to her first cousin Camille. Raquin embarks on a passionate affair with one of her husband's friends, and the story charts the breakdown of her life into murder, madness and suicide.

Adapted for film and television many times, the story's latest incarnation was as the film In Secret, the BBC reports, which starred Elizabeth Olsen. Knightley has previously starred on stage in London in The Misanthrope and The Children's Hour.

Knightley's two leading men - playing Camille and Laurent - have not yet been revealed. Although the theatre where it will be staged has not been confirmed, The Roundabout Theatre Company play - written by British playwright Helen Edmundson - opens in October 2015 in New York.
