Chile: Students protest slow education reforms

October 09: Students in Santiago are back on streets protesting slow progress in educational reforms by the government.

The students demand tuition free universities and believe that government's priority is for-profit education.

Negotiation with the government is achieving little success as it has rejected 24 out of 32 of CONFECH‘s (Confederation of Chilean Students) proposals for educational reform in September.

March organizers say around 6,000 people participated in today’s protest as police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse them.

The country has witnessed frequent student marches in the past few years.
