Chile: Student group pulls out of education reform dialogue

Chilean Student Confederation (Confech) has withdrawn from discussion on Educational Reform Bill with the government, citing the education ministry's inability to follow students demands.

In an Aug. 30 tweet, the withdrawal was announced by vice president Sebastián Aylwin of the Universidad de Chile Student Federation (Fech) — a member of the Chilean Student Confederation (Confech).

“With 20 votes, Confech has decided to pull out of the participation plan, with no votes seeking to remain! Now let’s look for honest and substantive dialogue,” he tweeted.

The decision drew heavy criticism from all political groups.
