Beauty: clever sticks

'Nudestix are ingenious. They're a collection of neutral concealers, lipsticks, blushers, shadows, liners and mascara that come only in sticks'

Invariably, when I hear the words "packaging concept", I roll my eyes, anticipating another gimmick designed by someone with no grasp on real life.

The lipsticks, eye shadows and blushers that click together mosaic-style into one gorgeous, handbag palette (no women buys all her makeup from one brand – that's absurd), the makeup that slots into a Filofax-type folder (ever worn an evening clutch or, more to the point, left 1988?), the tiny, tear-off monodoses of skincare, the components of which work out at eleventy billion pounds a serving.

These perfectly nice ideas are always flawed, and while often gorgeous as a gift, soon prove unworkable in real life.

Nudestix think much simpler and, consequently, are ingenious. They're a collection of neutral concealers, lipsticks, blushers, shadows, liners and mascara that come only in sticks.

Slim, durable, non-melting, non-spilling makeup that you chuck in your (even tiny) bag and apply easily on the go (they blend beautifully).

The shades are soft, pretty and wise in their lack of ambition. They are pricey, at £24, but very good, and can be combined easily with cheaper crayons and pencils.
