The World Cup According To Rihanna

RIHANNA has added her voice to the thousands of England fans who agonised over last night's game, although Phil Neville and Andy Townsend may not have to worry too much about losing their television commentary roles to her. The singer and Vogue cover girl seemed to be siding with the Three Lions during the game, although her tweets didn't illuminate much that millions of disappointed fans couldn't work out for themselves.

"Man they know better than to give Suarez that much room bruh!" the Bajan singer exclaimed following the Liverpool and Uruguay forward's second, and winning, goal. Indeed they do, but that didn't help the "devastation" felt by Roy Hodgson and his men following the final whistle. Adding that the Uruguayan defence was "almost disrespectful" for refusing to let England equalise, Rihanna also noted that Uruguay's keeper - Galatasaray's Fernando Muslera - "be on his shit tho!"

So, can England still qualify? Well, the good news is yes, they can. If Italy beats Costa Rica tonight, the chances are still alive - prompting Italy's outspoken star striker, Mario Balotelli, to tweet that he wants a "kiss from the Queen" if they do win. Then, England would need to beat Costa Rica on Tuesday, while Italy would have to do them another favour by beating Uruguay on the same night (at the same time, which will pile on the agony for fans who will doubtless be watching, and praying, in front of both games simultaneously). Even if all results go England's way (whereupon England, Costa Rica and Uruguay would all have three points, after winning one game each), the team that qualifies in second place will come down to goal difference - meaning that England and Italy would both have to win their games by several goals to improve the country's chances.

The bad news? No team, ever, in World Cup history has lost its first two games and progressed from the group stage.
