BRUR students go on two-day strike

Admission Fee Hike

Students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) under the banner of “Progotishil Chhatra Jote” enforced a two-day strike at the university protesting the hike in admission fees for students of honours courses under the 2013-2014 academic session.  
They boycotted all exams and classes and locked up the academic buildings. The students also gathered on the campus and chanted protest slogans.
Md Ahsan Habib, president of the university unit of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, claimed in the last academic session the fees were between Tk 7,190 and Tk 7,490, but this session it increased to approximately Tk 9,525.    
Contacted, Vice Chancellor Prof AKM Nur-un-Nabi said admission fees increased as they have now added dormitory costs to the fees.
The university opened student dormitories for the first time this year.
