Mozambique: No Cell Phones in Classrooms - Governor

Maputo — The Maputo City government has promised to enforce the ban on pupils using cell phones in classrooms.

City governor Lucilia Hama announced the ban on Wednesday, in response to growing complaints that pupils are using their phones during classes to send text messages, or to browse social media such as Facebook or Twitter. Worse still, cell phones are sometimes used to cheat during exams.

Meeting with secondary school teachers and pupils, Hama said that, when they go into the classroom, pupils must ensure that their cell phones are switched off and in their bags. Pupils should only switch them on again during breaks between classes or at the end of the school day.
