Lightning Knocks Out Power to London Schools

LONDON, Students already accustomed to missing school because of snow and ice were sent home early on Thursday because of a lightning strike. London City Schools students were dismissed at approximately 10 a.m. because of a power outage caused by a lightning strike on a utility pole near the district's main campus. While a generator enabled workers to keep the schools' lights on, the device did not provide power for kitchen equipment, leading district officials to order the early dismissal. Crews immediately began working to repair the damage done by the lightning strike.
