Arsenal might loose Robin van Persie, warns Cesc Fabregas

By Hussain Ali
Sports Correspondent,SAM Daily Times

Robin Van Persie
Cesc Fabregas said that Arsenal "cannot afford to loose" Robin van Persie. The 28-year old Dutchman is still to decide his future club as his contract is about to end.
"I don't know if they will keep him," Fábregas said. "It is his decision. At his age, if he wants to move, it will be his last chance and if he wants to stay he will stay and retire at Arsenal. We will see what he decides but he's been very loyal to Arsenal for a few years. He is a key player, the fans love him. For me, he is the role model of Arsenal, the star player and they cannot afford to lose him."
The club had a poor start after Cesc Fabregas  and Samir Nasri left the club. Arsene Wengar and majority share holder, Stan Kroenke had no option, due to financial reasons, but to sell Nasri to Manchester City in August, while Fabregas went to his home club, Barcelona.

ASIA'S ROLE IN GLOBAL RECOVERY

China in the past 3 decades has created 370 million jobs, lifting half a billion people out of poverty, and growing by an average 10 percent a year.

And Russia has expressed its willingness to increase its financial backing for the International Monetary Fund as part of international efforts to help Europe cope with its debt crisis.

To put it briefly, Asia can help the globe in financial recovery but can be affected badly by the continued Euro Crisis.

IMF Cheif Christine Lagarde said if countries failed to cooperate in the cause of global recovery, the consequences could be dangerous.

“Our sense is that if we do not act boldly and if we do not act together, the economy around the world runs the risk of downward spiral of uncertainty, financial instability and potential collapse of global demand... we could run the risk of what some commentators are already calling the lost decade,” she said.

Overcome Your Fear -- Take the First Step

By Sarah Mahmood

Nah mate I can't do it!

Well, why on earth can't you do it? True, the other person might be more talented but how can you know that unless you actually try doing it.

Many of us learn about our hidden talents in a very accidental manner. We are not even aware of their existence until either we are forcibly made to show them (in that case we perform really well) or else they come tumbling out one fine day (and take us by surprise). The question is why does this happen? Well, to put it simply, this happens because many of us fear to take the FIRST STEP!

We are either terrified of the aliens (read human) who'd be watching us making fools of ourselves or else we are just too lazy to explore the hidden sides of our personality. We are happily bagging grades, partying with friends, sleeping non-stop, shopping out with siblings and yet surprisingly immune to the deafening screams of our talents that lie dormant somewhere inside, begging to be unleashed to the finer tastes of the world.

Overcoming the fear of what others will say if somehow you end up messing it all up is essential because the fear of taking the first step is what kills all innovation. Believe me, no one's going to kill you. They all had their first times and now it's yours, so don't let anyone ruin it for you. Happy First Time!

A Step Towards Competitive Education

India -- The government plans to distribute 9.06 lakh laptops amongst state-funded institutions in an effort to bring the students up-to-date with the requirements of the technologically-equipped world. Additionally, students and faculty of Anna University will be conducting training sessions in order to familiarize the students with the working of the laptops.

Assess Your Heart Risks

A global study led by researchers from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada revealed that instead of the usual Body Mass Index ( BMI ) test  (which is usually done for analysing heart attack risks), BODY GIRTH is a much more accurate predictor. The study included a sample of 27,000 people from 52 different countries and which concluded that 'waist-to-hip' ratio is three times stronger a predictor of heart attack risk than the BMI.

Someone with an ideal BMI would be at increased risk if they had a paunch, while some people with a high BMI may not be at high risk if their waist is small. In fact the researchers found out that BMI was only slightly higher in HEART-ATTACK patients than other/healthier people.

By contrast, HEART ATTACK patients had a strikingly higher waist-to-hip ratio, regardless of their age or other risk factors such as smoking or high blodd pressure. The findings were declared true for all, regardless of age,sex or race.

Graphene: Could It Be The New Silicon?

It all started with a few experiments with scotch tape and pencil and then Graphene. 200 times as strong as steel, one atom thick and a super conductor was born. A wonder material that could be as revolutionary as Silicon.
Konstantin Novoselov, physics Nobel prize winning scientist with his team discovered graphene in the Manchester University and now the government has announced a £50 million investment in the production of graphene. Some claim that it is an innovation that will prove as revolutionary as the silicon chip, or even plastics, both of which it may supersede.

Will Probe Fall On Earth??!!!

After many failed space missions by Russia, on 7th November Russian space agency Roscosmos launched its major project to send a Probe to Martian Moon to study its surface. However, after its launch the probe's engines failed to start correctly, trapping it in low earth orbit. Space agency now has two weeks to send command to the probe to fire for Phobos - Martial moon. After that batteries will die and it will stay in orbit of earth. Anticipating further, Earth will reach probes early December and most likely it will fall on Earth. It raises many potential risks of its falling near populated area.
Read mission details in one of SAM Daily Times older post here.

Online groups cause risky decision-making

United States: A latest study by the researchers from the University of British Columbia and the University of Zurich shows that people who deal more in online communities are more apt to make risky decision in their lives.

Save this fish-You'll save the Oceans!!

Manhaden
Manhaden, also known as mossbunker, bunker or pogy are are small oily-fleshed fish.bright silver in color and characterized by a series of smaller spots behind the main, Humeral spot (Wiki). Rich in omega-3 oils , this fish species has largely been a source of livestock feed, health care products, and dietary supplements, hence hunted in large numbers too!

But recently researchers explain that an extinction of the species is a danger to the oceans itself as Manhaden also serves as the building block in the foundation of the Chesapeake’s ( largest estuary in the United States) food chain.

Barton Steven of NatGeo Society says ,

"Taking too many menhaden out of the ecosystem is like knocking over the first domino. Other species suffer when they don’t have robust populations of menhaden to eat. And when the numbers of the prized sports fish dwindle, the significant amount of dollars anglers annually bring to communities along the Bay declines in turn."

He further adds, "Protecting menhaden—although its fate might seem of small significance in light of the many other challenges facing our society today—would have tremendous long-term benefits for not only for the Bay’s ecosystem, but its economy as well."

Going Back In Time

Zain Javed
NUST

How about going back in time?? In fact this was just a theoretical possibility for such a wonder but after the discovery of neutrinos at CERN laboratory it can be a practical possibility. In fact neutrinos particles can help us to track light beams which have crossed our space into the outer space because neutrinos travel faster than light as per CERN statement.
This sounds very cool but there is still a lot debate going on over declaration of neutrinos as particles faster than light. As discussed in my previous article, it will shake the foundations of modern physics which claim speed of light as being constant and fastest throughout the universe.

Why Adobe Surrendered??

Saad Riaz Qazi
NUST

Adobe, in a move that has surprised many people, has announced that it will no longer work on further developing flash player for mobile browsers. This announcement came despite the previous reassurances by Adobe that they would improve their flash player for browser.

Official Statement:

In an official release, that will be out shortly, Adobe management says;

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

Bug Fixes & Support is Still There!

Continued support and bug fixes are necessary because of the huge range of phones over which the flash player is used. However, not releasing any new version would certainly mean that most mobile phone giants would now use flash player alternatives till the phones supporting it are completely phased out of the industry.

Why did Adobe Discontinue FP?

Flash Player’s Poor Efficiency!

Many are wondering why Adobe would take such a drastic measure but some reasons are very clear. Firstly, Adobe has been taking criticism for long due to the poor performance of the flash player. It takes up a lot of resources and sucks all the juice out of the battery faster than any other application. This is also the reason why Apple continued to ignore Adobe for its iPhone browser even when it was criticized for doing so.

HTML 5 is the Future!

Secondly, HTML 5 is now making ground in the mobile industry and it can act as a pretty good alternative of flash player. It will not only be complex but also more efficient. Adobe most probably realized that they would be forced to quit but the popularity of HTML 5 so they can save resources by pulling the product off market on time
.
Good for Everyone:

This also shows that Apple and Microsoft were correct in choosing HTML 5 over Adobe’s Flash player. This might be a disappointing news for some but in the long run, this would be beneficial for everyone including Adobe as the work on HTML 5 would start more vigorously with increased output.

Justice For All

I thought about the graduation ceremony I'd attended the day before at Kentucky State University, celebrating the success of many promising young black students. But I also thought about how, on the same day, I met a man who spent 12 years in prison, with five children who never graduated from high school.

How Screens Affect Your Eyes!!

Researchers from the Ohio State University found that squinting at a computer screen can halve the number of times a person can blink!!

The above phenomenon leads to dry eyes. The team hooked electrodes to the eyelids of ten volunteers to track the muscle activity involved in both squinting and blinking. Blink rates were 15 blinks per minute for relaxed eyes while 7.5 for squinted ones.

Andrew Hogan of the Austrailian Optometrisits Association says that concentrating and squinting to reduce glare will tend to make you blink less. Air conditioners can also dry eyes.

The study further explains that while reading a book one's eyes do get to relax/blink because of the page-turning necessity but screens allow us no respite! Hogan advises taking regular breaks ."Look out of the window at different distances and around the room so that your focus is not just locked on the monitor".
