Panasonic's hair-washing robot: rinse, kill, repeat

Panasonic's hair-washing robot: rinse, kill, repeat

After the epic Exercise Horse , Panasonic is now up with a robot that can wash your hair!

The robotic bed will lift you by itself by a plush care assist robot and place you into a chair for an automatic shampoo and scalp massage.

The technology is a not only a great hope for the sick and elderly, but may fantacize the rich and lazy as well

Panasonic's hair-washing robot scans each human head three-dimensionally to apply just the right amount of pressure during the shampoo, massage, and rinse phases. It recognizes repeat customers and then applies that person's preferred massage course using its human-like sixteen "fingers."

Food Review - Fettuccine Alfredo

If you have the right taste buds for 'cheesy' flavours, then this is just the thing for you. Fettuccine pasta, tossed with Parmesan cheese, cream and butter, mixed with chicken and parsley leaves and spiced slightly with garlic, salt and black pepper, provides the perfect blend for any pasta-lover not wishing to go for too much spice. A must-have!

1984- George Orwell

1984, written by George Orwell talks about Oceania, a totalitarian state created by the 'Party', where everyone is monitored all day round by the formidable 'telescreens'. Professing to do good for the public, the 'Party' controls the minds and actions of the people, where 'thoughtcrime' is punishable by law. The world is perpetually at war, with the three states that it is now divided in, Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia, changing sides every now and then.
Winston Smith works for the 'Party' but is guilty of 'thoughtcrime'. While still in his right mind, he commits the unforgivable sin of falling in love, rebelling against the ideology of the 'Party', that could lead to his destruction. What happens next is for you to find out.
In this engrossing tale of crippled humanity, George Orwell puts forward words of caution for us to heed. A must-read!

Salman Butt agreed to bat maiden over, court told

By Hussain Ali
Sports Correspondent, SAM Daily Times

London Oct 6: Salman Butt agreed to score no runs in a over as part of the betting scam,a court heard on Thursday.
After the allegations on Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Asif the prosecuter showed a tape in which Salman Butt agreed to bat a maiden over.

Majeed allegedly said: "You know the maiden we were doing in the first over?"
Butt allegedly replied: "Yeah."
Majeed: "You know the third over you face? Do one more maiden."
Butt: "No, leave it, OK."
Majeed: "You don't want to do the third over?"
Butt: "Nai, yaar." ("No, mate.")
Prosecutor Aftab Jafferjee said: "If not party to this corrupt agreement, you might expect Butt to say something to the effect of 'What are you talking about?'"
As the betting scam gets wider, the reporter working for News of the World is alleged to have revealed that four other pakistani players, Wahab Riaz, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Imran Farhat, were also involved in the spot -fixing.
The humiliation for the young player Amir continued when Aftab jafferjee said, "the relatively hapless Aamir would end up bowling no-balls that, as a seasoned cricket statistician will tell you, were the biggest no-balls he’s ever seen ".
Salman and Asif are still denying the allegations.

Pakistan’s spending on education lowest: World Bank

It is heart rendering to know that Pakistan Government does not pay special attention towards this factor. Green data book 2006 (launched by the world bank) says that in Pakistan education is not given any significant importance; necessary steps for development in the field of education are ignored. Pakistan spends only 2.3 percent on education out of its total Gross National Income. Normally south Asian countries spend 3.6 percent, whereas countries with low income use 3.4 of the income. Despite of being an under developed country it uses the minimum possible amount on schools and colleges.
These indicators show the country is not placed comfortable in terms of public sector spending on education. Education, which is of paramount importance for human resource development, is the most neglected area in Pakistan. There are about 20 million children between five and nine years of age. But only about half of them are currently enrolled in primary school. And little girls make up much less than half of that number, according to the figures.

US adds 103,000 more jobs

The US economy added 103,000 jobs in September, ahead of many economists' expectations.

But the jobless rate was stuck at 9.1%, according to latest data from the Department of Labor.
Although the figures were boosted by the return to work of striking workers, the department also revised upwards employment data from August and July.
Last month, President Barack Obama unveiled a $450bn (£282bn) package of spending plans aimed at creating jobs.
The White House said that despite the new jobs, the unemployment rate remained "unacceptably high".
"Clearly, we need faster economic growth to put Americans back to work. Today's report underscores the president's call for Congress to pass the American Jobs Act to put more money in the pockets of working and middle class families," it said in its regular blog.
The private sector accounted for all the job gains, and the figures were boosted by the return of 45,000 Verizon telecoms workers who had been on strike in August.
Excluding those workers, the number of jobs created was still at a higher-than-predicted 58,000.
The aggregate weekly hours being worked also rose, the Labor Department said.
While the jobs report was better than feared, Tom Porcelli, chief US economist at RBC Capital Markets, said it did not suggest the economy was gaining momentum
"It moves you away from the ledge," he said.
The report gave a lift to Wall Street, with the three main share indexes rising in early trading. However, a downgrade of Spanish and Italian government debt by ratings agency Fitch undermined investor confidence, and the main Dow Jones index closed down 20 points at 11,103.

The US government shed 34,000 jobs in September, and there were large redundancies in local government of teachers and other school employees.
Job gains were seen in construction, retail, temporary help services and health care. There was a fall in the number of jobs in manufacturing for the second straight month.
Previously, data for August had showed the economy added no new jobs, underlying fears that the US was heading back towards recession.
But the revised August figures show a gain of 57,000 jobs. July was revised up to a gain of 127,000 jobs, from 85,000.
Mr Obama's jobs programme proposes funding huge construction projects, schools and services, while giving tax cuts to workers and small businesses to boost recruitment.
However, with Republicans having rejected a proposed tax rise on wealthier people to pay for it, Mr Obama is fighting to get the package through Congress.

Students organize to defeat water invasion in a hospital

Mirpurkhas, Oct 6: Around 300 students of the Eastern Public School and College took up the responsibility of draining out rainwater from Civil Hospital. The rainwater was stagnating in the premises of hospital for over a month. Students organised themselves, formed a line and passed water in pails. The last person in the line to get the pail would drain it. The unique task ended in two hours. If students hadn't stepped forward, no one would have. Civil administration took a whole month to do nothing about it. These students have set a great example. The lesson is that other places can be cleaned too in the same manner.
